Plop

Project in collaboration with Keyla Hernandez.  Team: Sofia Zavala

Plop, bringing the stage to life, and we mean every part of it. This proposal sets to create a three-dimensional version of the original Ragdale ring. We understand the shape of the original ring as a two-dimensional circle with entrances and circulation that can be interpreted in three dimensions as a spherical mass with protrusions and cutouts. The ring itself becomes an object, a mass. The idea is to focus on the performance and the performer, setting a backdrop full of possibilities while they inhabit their own space, a space different to that of the audience, it’s their own bubble. The object becomes one more performer, one more piece of the event, with its own qualities and characteristics. It brings a larger scale of performance, it’s mass and posture tells a story, that of an object ready to move, to take part of the event, to grow, to perform. It became clear it was craving to be alive, to take on the temporarily of the installation and mutate as times goes on. It wanted to become its own animal, its own micro-environment, full of intricacies and behaviors, and so……… it was born. Its name was ….Plop……
